A beaver dam! Well, this is kinda expected if you are in Canada... :-)
Мы высаживаемся на плотину и оглядываемся. Этим плоскохвостым труженникам надо бы сказать спасибо - без их плотины уровень воды над каменистой отмелью, которую мы только что преодолели, был бы куда ниже!
We climb out on the dam and look back. We should actually be thankful to the animals - without them the "rocky shallows" that we've just passed would have been much more rocky and shallow!
Плотина совсем невысокая, перевалить каноэ через нее не проблема, даже разгружать не надо. Но под плотиной - пороги. Не крутые, но слишком длинные, каменистые и мелкие, в каноэ по ним не сплавиться. Приходится спускать его "на бечеве", перепрыгивая с камня на камень.
The dam is very low, so it is easy to tip canoe over it. But the rapids below are a problem. They are not steep, but are lengthy, shallow and rocky, you cannot ride them in the canoe. Lining seems the best option here, and can almost be done with dry feet, if you carefully hop from rock to rock and occasionally to the shore.
Пороги пройдены. Мы снива грузимся в каноэ и выходим в маленькое безымянное озеро.
The last meters of the shallow rapids - and we re-board the canoe and slowly paddle into the next small, nameless lake.
...Перед тем как штурмовать пороги "в лоб", мы поискали обходной волок на берегу - но безуспешно. Если он и был тут когда-то, то с тех пор все давно заросло.
...Before lining the canoe through the dam and rapids, we tried to find a land portage. There were some hints of it initially - but mostly the suggested "trail" looked like on this photo.
